Monica Lee

Come help celebrate the release of Monica Lee’s new single Smokin’. Lee digs into her Prairie Albertan roots with this country hoedown. Writing about one of her closest friends’ relationship drama, Lee drives home the long known truth; some days are just not the right days to quit smoking! Backed by some of Vancouver’s hardest hitters, this song is the perfect sing along.

An earlier mix of this track was featured in the award winning web series Inconceivable episode 2. Now with all the bells and whistles mixing and mastering done, this track is ready for your playlists! Have a listen!

Monica has been performing her original songs in Vancouver and around Western Canada for a couple decades. Catching melodies from dreams and stories from real life events, Lee crafts her music like heirloom quilts, heavy, warm, each panel detailed and tells a story. Monica’s voice is stirring, reminiscent of Carly Simon and Carole King. Beautiful, flawed, lost and on display, vulnerable yet still powerful she captures our essence and mirrors it back to us. Playing piano, guitar, viola, ukulele and most notably her voice, Lee will bring you back from where ever you have been. Her upcoming record “Farewell” was recorded and mixed over an 8-year period by Jesse Waldman, engineering and co-producing the album with Lee. They started the project while Monica was expecting her second child. Both dedicated to her young family and her song craft, Lee took her time with this one. The band will be playing songs of the upcoming record and more.

“Monica Lee is a fine musician and an excellent vocalist. Catchy melodies are everywhere in her music. But where she truly shines is in her lyrics. I’ve herd a lot of songs over the years, (as have all of you) and I find words worth hearing to be quite rare. I hope you all like her songs as much as I do.” – Steven Drake

Monica Lee found out this year that she is deaf. She has been her whole life in fact. Like her you would probably never know it. Her voice is stirring, reminiscent of Carly Simon and Carole King. Beautiful, vulnerable yet still powerful Lee’s talent for songwriting and melody has developed despite her disability. After her friends cornered her and forced her to get her hearing checked she now hears a whole new kind of world. Lee’s songs share her unique point of view with all of us.

Roses” frequently airing on CBC, and played live with Dan Mangan. Her musical heritage flows from her grandfather who played piano with Nat King Cole. Wheeler’s own music combines strong melody and a message of positivity as a beacon in dark times.
