The Vancouver Folk Song Society is Canada’s longest running folk club (since 1959!), and has been instrumental in nurturing the growth of some of Vancouver’s finest traditional singers. This benefit concert will feature performances by The Amorphous Folk Collective, Blackthorn Blossoms, Steel Cut Notes, Lucien & Isa, and Cara Luft. Come help to keep the VFSS going strong for another 66 years!
About The Amorphous Folk Collective
A burgeoning instigatory force in the Pacific Northwest’s traditional singing scene, The Amorphous Folk Collective bring a vast breadth of experience – from pub singing and old-time, to jazz and theatre – to traditional singing, and their rare group performances reflect this. Expect diverse arrangements of voices and harmonies, and thematic explorations of love, loss, and resistance.
About Blackthorn Blossoms
Blackthorn Blossoms features Michael Viens on guitar and vocals and Rosie Carver on fiddle. You may recognize them as half of Blackthorn, Vancouver’s longest running Celtic band. These two accomplished players have been making musical magic together for over 25 years and are regular fixtures on the local Celtic music scene.
About Steel Cut Notes
Steel Cut Notes is a new folk group carving out their sound through heartfelt harmonies, timeless tunes, and drunken ballads. Drawn to the raw storytelling of folk music and the rousing spirit of sea shanties, they’re finding their voice one song at a time.
About Lucien & Isa
Mixing sweet and soulful melodies with folk classics, the youthful duo with the rock n’ roll hair features Isa Hastings on guitar and vocals and Lucien Lawley on the guitar, harmonica and vocals.
About Cara Luft
Cara is simply one of the finest songwriters and folk musicians in Canada. She was a founding member of the Wailin’ Jenny’s, won multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards with her project The Small Glories, and has been lighting up stages across the world for the past year as a solo artist.
