Oud virtuoso Ahmed Maher previews his forthcoming “oriental jazz” album, Maktoub, in advance of its June release. He has arranged the album tracks especially for this live performance, which will feature Odissi dancer Dallas Eresman.
About Ahmed
Vancouver based Oud virtuoso, composer, arranger, and music producer born in Alexandria, Egypt. Studied under the great Iraqi Oud master Nasser Shamma and has gone on to perform across the Middle East and Europe. Driven by his passione for weaving traditional Middle Eastern melodies with the form and improvisational flair of jazz, he collaborated with many artists over the years like Grammy Winners Fathy Salama and Youssou Ndour, jazz greats Edouard Ferlet, Benjamin Koppel, and Tommy Andersson. His upcoming debut album, “Maktoub,” promises to deliver a unique sound experience that defies genres and opens up a whole new world of sound and creativity.
About Dallas
Dallas studied temple & classical dance form, Odissi in India as well as many ritual traditions of ancient cultures. She performed in Vancouver Fringe Festival Dance theatre shows, and the Heart of Tantra Festival over the last decade. Originally a freestyle dancer, Dallas co-founded the community Ecstatic Dance in Squamish and currently facilitates Moon Circles for Women, teaching various dance disciplines, embodiment and movement meditations designed to invigorate the feminine essence and spirit.
