BARRY TRUTER AND FRIENDS
SUNDAY, 27 OCTOber 2024 | DOORS AT 14:30, MUSIC FROM 15:00
This EVENT is a fundraiser for LAST DOOR and Westminster House. It is a GIFT ECONOMY event. Please give generously.
Musician and writer Barry Truter is a mainstay of Vancouver’s great folk music tradition. Join him to celebrate the release of Traveller 2 – Let Your Heart Lead, an album of eleven songs and tunes drawn from his award-winning book Traveller: Stories and Songs in the Key of Connection. Barry’s stories and songs are inspired by his travels, personal encounters, and reflections on the world around us. Joining Barry in this matinee variety performance are the talented musicians who helped make his songs shine on the album: Fraser-Henderson (Barb Fraser & Dennis Henderson), Tanglewood Duo (Emily Villavicencio & Noa Neuman), Phil Belanger, Don Fraser, Max Pinsky, and Fraser Union (Roger Holdstock, Kathy Griffin, Barry Truter). All proceeds will support Open Door and Wiestminster House, which provide addiction recovery and support services.
About Barry
Barry Truter was born in India and has lived in Hong Kong, Fiji, U.S.A, Pakistan, England, and Canada. By turns a seafarer, IT professional, business consultant, musician, and writer, he has performed with musical group Fraser Union since 1986. He is a cofounder of the Georgia Strait Music Camp (formerly Georgia Strait Guitar Workshop), and is a frequent instructor at music camps in the Pacific Northwest.
Barry’s curiousity in the ways of the world kept him engaged in an IT career while pursuing his interests in the arts. He has a BA in English and Business from Simon Fraser University, and is a 2017 graduate of SFU’s The Writers Studio creative writing program. During a 35 year career as a business consultant and director in an IT professional services firm, he worked with a fascinating variety of public and private sector clients in many industry settings including healthcare, higher education, airlines, financial services, provincial and municipal government, transportation, and supply chain logistics. His retirement allowed him to focus on more recent careers in music and creative writing.
