ORCA BENEFIT

HAIDA ORCA SANCTUARY BENEFIT with LUKE WALLACE

SaturDAY, 25 MAY 2024  |  DOORS AT 19:30, MUSIC FROM 20:00

Join singer songwriter, activist, local favourite, and all-around goodnik Luke Wallace for a special benefit concert to help establish a sanctuary for the rehabilitation and rewilding of orcas held captive by the aquarium entertainment industry. This is a joint project between the Haida nations and We Belong to the Sea, a local nonprofit organization. Even if you cannot come to hear Luke (and Foghorn Lil of the Tiny Milkshakes, who will open), please consider giving your generous support to this project.

About Luke Wallace

Luke Wallace is a songwriter, speaker, choral arranger and environmental champion from the Coast Salish Territory known as Vancouver, Canada. For 10 years Luke has been touring, recording, fundraising and organizing for people and the planet.

In 2023, Luke was a feature performer at the United Nations Water Conference, the first of its kind in a generation. Luke has performed hundreds of concerts all over North America and spends much of his time speaking in schools about hope in the face of climate change. Luke’s performance history include the Vancouver Folk Festival, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues, Vancouver Island Music Festival and multiple independent US tours.

About Foghorn Lil

Foghorn Lil is the solo project of Tiny Milkshakes’ guitarist Jillian Maguire.  Being arrested with Extinction Rebellion and On 2 Ottawa (now Last Generation Canada), going to trial and observing others being dragged through the un-justice system in so-called Canada has been a rich creative source. Hear songs about judges, lawyers, police, park rangers and politicians. It’ll be a real anarchist holiday!

Here’s what the organizers say about this event.

FREE our ORCAS!

Join us in Love for our sacred orcas relatives, for an evening of the outstanding healing musical medicine of Luke Wallace – “…a poet’s gift and a voice to deliver it all, Luke is both an artist to listen to and a hope for the future.”- Gary Cristall, The Vancouver Folk Music Festival.

Local non-profit/charity ‘We Belong to the Sea’ is proudly collaborating with Haida Nations Peoples to create the first ocean sanctuary for the rehabilitation, rewilding and emancipation of orcas currently held captive in untenable conditions for profiteering by the ‘animal entertainment’ industry. Starting with the ’60’s Scoop” native children and native orcas were both taken from their homes and families against their will and held in reprehensible and inhumane conditions. Now is the time to FREE our ORCAS from their fish bowls to the healing waters of pristine Haida Gwaii – to restore their stolen freedom and dignity. Join us!

Donations at the door. 50/50 raffle and more! Non-alcoholic drinks only.
