THE BALLAD OF A SOLDIER-BARD IN TIMES OF WAR: Photography, Poetry, Music
SATURDAY 11 APRIL 2026 | DOORS AT 19:30, PERFORMANCE AT 20:00
THIS IS A FREE EVENT

Join photographer Stephano Gulmanelli, poet Arianna Dagnino, guitarists Bruce Davidson and Leonardo Paolella, and vocalist Marenia for a cross-disciplinary performance celebrating the dialogue between image, word, and sound. The event offers a reflective exploration of love, memory, and creativity in times of conflict.
The performance features black-and-white photography by Stefano Gulmanelli, inspired by Arianna Dagnino’s poetic cycle To Die Like a Poem. The Ballad of a Soldier-Bard (Ekstasis, Victoria), with live guitar accompaniment by Bruce Davidson and Leonardo Paolella, and voice by singer-songwriter Marenia (Maria Ylenia Trozzolo).
Centred on the figure of a soldier-bard — a jazz musician witnessing both the violence of war and the persistence of beauty — the project invites the audience to engage with the healing and connective power of the arts in an age of global unrest.
This performance is part of the free public events of the Capture Photography Festival across Vancouver and is organised with the support of the Dante Alighieri Society of BC, a non-profit dedicated to the promotion of Italian culture.
