Vancouver Percussion opens its first concert series with a Marimba and vibraphone duo. Percussionists Amber Chen and Gaël Chabot-Leclerc pair the warm, wooden resonance of the marimba with the shimmering sustain of the vibraphone in a program that goes from Romantic sketches to jazz standards.
Along the way you’ll hear works by some of today’s leading voices for mallet percussion, including Emmanuel Séjourné, Ivan Trevino, and Blake Tyson, plus the jazz-inflected vibraphone writing of Bill Molenhof and Ruud Wiener. It’s a program full of colour, groove, and lyricism, showing how much two players can draw from bars and mallets.
This concert marks the start of a new chapter for percussion in Vancouver. Come hear what these instruments can do up close, and be part of the first chapter of Vancouver Percussion’s concert series.
